小三英文

1. Plural Nouns

Regular Nouns (+s)

e.g. 1 Apple ; 2 Apples

Ends in vowel + Y (+s)

e.g. 1 day ; 2 days

Ends in vowel + O (+s)

e.g. 1 video ; 2 videos

Ends in s / ch / sh / x / z (+es)

e.g. 1 bus ; 2 buses
1 match ; 2 matches
1 dish ; 2 dishes
1 box ; 2 boxes
1 quiz ; 2 quizzes

Ends inconsonant + O (+es)

e.g. 1 tomato ; 2 tomatoes

Ends in consonant + Y (+ies)

e.g. 1 baby ; 2 babies

Ends in f / fe (+ves)

e.g. 1 leaf ; 2 leaves
1 life ; 2 lives

Irregular Nouns

e.g. 1 tooth ; 2 teeth
1 person ; 2 people
1 mouse ; 2 mice
1 woman ; 2 women

No Change

e.g. 1 deer ; 2 deer
1 fish ; 2 fish

2. Some/Any

Some

We use “some” before nouns to refer to indefinite quantities. Although the quantity is not important or not defined, using some implies a limited quantity.

Any

We use “any” before nouns to refer to indefinite or unknown quantities or an unlimited entity.

Example:
Have you got any tomatoes? (Questions)
I have not got any tomatoes. (－)
I have got some tomatoes. (＋)
